Re-creation of a still image

At 34 metres, it is the largest monument Hamburg - the Bismarck Monument built around 1906 in the Altona district. Surrounded by the Old Elbe Park, the statue of the first German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck stands on a granite pedestal.

Shortly after his death, the monument was commissioned and at the time was intended to embody the Hanseatic city as a symbol of prosperity, market law and justice. The traditional Hanseatic form of the Rolandsstaute was chosen as the style.

Due to Bismarck's history, the future of the monument is permanently in the public discourse. Therefore, in addition to a renovation, further supplementary concepts are now being discussed.

Stable thanks to KEMPEROL

The monument and the associated forecourt have been affected over the years by weather, the surrounding nature and wear and tear. A renovation is now to protect the existing rooms in the monument against moisture entering. No easy task - as this requires the outer shell of the plinth, consisting of granite blocks, beneath the statue of the 625-tonne landmark to be removed in order to seal the concrete ceilings underneath.

The executing company Bade Dächer GmbH & Co.KG First prime these with the KEMCO POX 2K-Primer. The solvent-free, 2-component special primer is the suitable base for the mineral substrate. In combination with KEMPEROL 1K-SF the waterproofing is then applied over the entire surface - an ideal solution, especially for complex substrate geometries.
